Marines and soldiers moved uphill under direct fire.

Hand to hand fighting along the trench lines.
Blanc Mont was taken, counterattacked, and held.
The cost was heavy.
The position held.
This action shattered German defensive depth in the Champagne and opened the way for the final advances of the war.
